2009 SU Update: Humanitarianism at Work

12 May 2009

For the second time this year, employees and volunteers of Universiade Belgrade 2009 have taken part in the campaign of the Serbian Institute for Blood Transfusion and Novi Beograd Red Cross.

‘Together, Universiade employees and volunteers have shown humanitarianism at work. Without volunteers Universiade would have been impossible. However, their help is immeasurable in other spheres, not only in sport – example of that is blood donation. We are very proud of our volunteers, who are one of the key factors of the forthcoming Universiade. At present, we have more than 15,000 volunteers in our database. We are inviting all those who want to become volunteers to join us now, because very soon we will start the serious work’, said Tamara Kostro, PR Director of UB2009.

Boris Komazec, student of Belgrade Business School and Universiade volunteer has donated his blood twice. ‘It is an honor to be part of such a big sports event in Serbia. Apart from that, the main reason I applied for volunteering was that here I can meet new people and make new friends. I am thankful that I am healthy and can donate my blood and possibly save someone’s life’, Komazec said.

Bojana Radic, student of the Teacher Training Faculty, was another blood donor. ‘This is my first job as a volunteer and I am glad I could give my blood because I have been a donor for some time. I believe everyone should have this kind of responsibility and help others when needed’, Radic said.

Fitness Center N1 (TC Piramida) presented the young blood donors with vouchers. ‘These presents for volunteers-blood donors are a gesture of appreciation and goodwill’, said the manager of the fitness center and another Universiade volunteer, Nikola Kovacevic.
