2009 SU Update: Working Visit – Day 2

On Tuesday, May 12th, 2009, the Director of the Summer Universiade, Marc VANDENPLAS, as well as the Director of Educational and Development Services, Kolë GJELOSHAJ together with the coordinator of Medal Awarding Ceremonies, Nicole MANGELSCHOTS, had a second day of meetings with the Organizing Committee of the Universiade in Belgrade.

In the morning, Marc VANDENPLAS held a meeting at the Athletes Village with the Mayor of the Village. The themes on the agenda of the meeting were accommodation, catering, transportation and also the location of the offices of the Heads of Delegation meetings and of the offices of the FISU Family and Staff in the Village. After the meeting, a visit to these offices was organized.

Kolë GJELOSHAJ made an inspection visit of the Sava Center where the Conference will be organized from July 2nd to 5th, 2009. The delegates of the Organizing Committee of the Conference coming from the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education at the University of Belgrade and the representatives of the Organizing Committee of the Universiade, showed Kolë GJELOSHAJ the layout of the Sava Center, including the number or rooms, and which rooms would be used for the CESU meeting, the Opening Ceremony of the Conference, and the working sessions.

Nicole MANGELSCHOTS visited the sport venues (athletics, diving, swimming, water polo, archery, volleyball, basketball) to check the preparations for the medal awarding ceremonies. She took advantage of her presence at each sport venue by also inspecting the VIP area and the services which will be provided to them.

Marc VANDENPLAS and Kolë GJELOSHAJ met with all the departments involved in the Opening Ceremony. The working session for the Opening Ceremony was divided into three parts. The first meeting at the Village concerned the operational plan of the Opening Ceremony. Following they went to the Belgrade Arena where the Opening Ceremony will be held on July 1st to check the VIP seating and the plan of the participant March Pass. Afterwards, they were invited to view a run through of the cultural program.
