2009 SU Update: 160 Volunteers from Tatarstan at the Universiade

10 June 2009

Executive Director of company “Universiade Belgrade 2009” Dejan Susovic, accompanied by the president of the UB2009 Executive Committee, Nebojsa Ilic signed an agreement with the Minster for Sport, Youth and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan (one of constitutive republics of Russia) Marat Bariev, on the basis of which 160 students from Tatarstan will work as volunteers at the 25th Summer Universiade.

‘Cooperation between Universiade Belgrade and the Republic of Tatarstan began several months ago, but it has been officially recognized only now, by the signing of this agreement. The agreement provides for 160 volunteers from Tatarstan to work at the Universiade in Belgrade. Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, will be the host of the Universiade in 2013. Our cooperation has just began, but it will continue after the Games in Belgrade are over, because our representatives, experts and volunteers will take part in organizing future Universiades, since their exceptional work has received wide recognition’, Nebojsa Ilic said.

At the regular press conference in the media center, Nebijsa Ilic stated that volunteers from Kazan will be the 2009 Universiade special guests.
‘Exceptional cooperation between our two countries is seen not only in sport. We have initiated communication not only for our sake, but for the sake of Russia and Kazan, as future Universiade hosts’, Nebojsa Ilic stated.
Minister Marat Bariev said that young people in Tatarstan have shown remarkable interest in taking part in the 25th Summer Universiade.

‘Young people from Tatarstan have shown great interest in helping their friends in Serbia. More than 1,000 students applied for this job. We had a tough time selecting only 160 from amongst very promising candidates. We had to choose the best. This is going to be our small contribution to the Universiade in Belgrade’, Marat Bariev said.

The Russian-Tatar House will be opened in Ada Ciganlija during the Universiade.

‘We want the citizens of Belgrade and all your Universiade guests, who will be visiting the Serbian capital at the time, to get acquainted with our history and culture, because in 2013 all of you will be our guests’, Marat Bariev concluded.
