2009 SU Update: Hi Tech Telecommunications in Athletes’ Village

23 June 2009

In the Universiade Village, Company Telekom Serbia implemented an impressive IT and telecommunications plan for the Universiade Belgrade 2009.

More than 300 employees of Telekom Serbia from Belgrade, Novi Sad, Smederevo and Vršac worked on this project.
All participants, athletes, coaches, delegation members, and VIP guests will have at their disposal the most up-to-date services.

‘We have employed the existing capacities for the purpose, but have also expanded and upgraded significantly the existing public telecommunication network. We have installed more than 600 km of optical fibers to connect all venues and fields of play to be used during the Universiade’, said Telekom Serbia marketing and sales director, Jelena Simic.
In order to provide for a faultless functioning of the system during the Universiade, Telekom Serbia has made available IT and telecommunication support to the Universiade information system that consists of sub-systems for collecting results, accreditation, security, TV broadcasting, access to Internet and fixed telephony.
The infrastructure built for the Universiade will be used after the Universiade as the integral part of the existing Telekom Serbia telecommunication network. Participants and Universiade organizers will be the first to use the new Telekom Serbia IP technology, such as IP CENTREX and broadband telephone connection (IP telephone). These services will soon be available in the rest of Serbia, too.

Each room in the Universiade Village has the latest telecommunication equipment. All Universiade participants and organizers have at their disposal mobile and fixed telephone, Internet and IPTV service packages.
All participants will be able to use prepaid fixed telephone service packages and will be able to buy vouchers for add-ons at any time. They will have ADSL, IPTV and fixed telephones in their rooms. Prepaid MTS cards will allow them to make international calls at a uniform price, much lower than the price for the roaming service of any foreign operator.

We have on offer the Data prepaid card for mobile Internet, as well. We had in mind the needs of Universiade accredited media representatives. They will be able to make telephone calls in Serbia and abroad at competitive prices by using Press InfoCall vouchers.
For the Universiade 2009 participating delegations, Telekom Serbia has developed the user competition portal, to be made available 24/7 to all participants during the Universiade.

‘The Universiade Call Center (9818), as an extension of the Telekom Serbia Call center, will provide all information as to the competition time tables, transportation and Belgrade tourist offers’, Jelena Stojanovic concluded.
