2009 SU Update: FISU Women’s Committee Members Discuss with Female Delegates of Gulf States

Universiades always provides a good opportunity to get in contact with people from all over the world and discuss the further development of university sports in different countries. This possibility was also taken by FISU Women’s Committee. Dr. Verena Burk (Chair) and Alison Odell of FISU Women’s Committee met female representatives of Kuwait and Qatar to give information about the work of FISU Women’s Committee and to receive an overview about the status of women and sport in these two Arabic countries. Mrs. Balsam Al-Ayoub and Mrs. Lulwa M. Al-Ayoub, former high performance athletes in fencing, and Mrs. Sala Al Hamed, Head of Sports Activities in Qatar University and Head of Delegation of the Qatar Team shared with the members of FISU Women’s Committee their goals and plans for a further cooperation in the field of promoting women’s sport in Kuwait and Qatar. – Verena Burk
