Gwangju City officially established the Organizing Committee of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade.
The members of the Organizing Committee of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade held an inaugural meeting at a local convention center on January 26th, 2010, attended by about two-hundred national and local leaders from all levels of society – politics, government, sports, education, media, business and civic community.
A special law was enacted to support the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade at the end of year 2009. The special law is highly significant that the Organizing Committee is given authority necessary not only to establish a special corporate body but also to fulfill exclusive financial, legal and administrative functions
The Organizing Committee hereby has secured special rights and unstinting support from the Korean Government in accordance with the Special Law for the Support of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade.
The members of the Organizing Committee elected co-chairs; Mr. Ui-hwa Chung, both the National Assembly Member and the former Chair of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade Bid Committee, and Mr. Jeong-bin Lee, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Mr. Kwang-tae Park, Mayor of Gwangju City was elected Chair of the Executive Committee. Yoon-suk KIM, Vice-Mayor of Gwangju City was elected Vice-Chair and Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee.
