2013 SU Update: New Venue Inaugurated

The inauguration of the Sports Complex of the Olympic Reserve School in Kazan “Olympian” was attended by a Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Minister of Youth affairs, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Bariev, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Vice-Chairman of the State Duma Committee of Physical Culture and Sports of the Russian Federation Ildar Galmutdinov, Director General of the Executive Directorate of the Universiade 2013 Vladimir Leonov, Director of the Kazan School of Olympic Reserve Mansur Miftakhov and other heads of the Republic’s Ministries and Departments.

“The Republic has a joyful occasion today. The 11th Universiade venue is put in service. The entrusted right to Tatarstan to hold the Universiade opened the door to the construction of such beautiful sports venues as “Olympian”, Rustam Minnikhanov said. Further he thanked the Federal Government for offering an opportunity to implement the Universiade projects in Kazan and also expressed words of gratitude to the designers and constructors that had worked at “Olympian”.

The venue with a total area of 6,196 square meters is equipped with a sports hall with 700 seats for competitive sports training such as volleyball, tennis and badminton. “Olympian” is also equipped with sports halls for training weight-lifting, box, table tennis, judo and also a gym.

“The complex represents the Olympic training center for promising young sportsmen. We hope that under the aegis of the center they will set records and achieve astonishing sports results. During the 2013 Summer Universiade volleyball training will take place in the sports halls of the Sports Complex “Olympian”, – Vladimir Leonov said in an interview.

The famous Tatarstan sportsmen, champions and former Olympic champions took part in the inauguration of the Sports Complex “Olympian”: Svetlana Demina, Nailya Gilyazova, Airat Zakiev, the Kolesnikovs (Nikolay and Anastasiya). The 2013 Universiade volunteers assisted in the inauguration of Sports Complex.
