Brasilia – About 2,000 athletes from 26 Brazilian’s states will compete in the 3rd edition of the Brazilian Federal Institutions of Professional Education and Technology Games (JIF 2010), which will take place from May 23rd to 29th.

Brasília (the federal capital) will host the tournament that aims to encourage sports activities among Brazilian youth and promote the spirit of sportsmanship and cultural exchange among participants.

For the first time, CBDU will be part of JIF’s organization invited by Education and Sports Ministries. ‘It is a great opportunity for us to get closer to a new and young audience, the students from public education. It is also a chance to boost the sport participation in the federal education system thinking about new talents for the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro 2016. CBDU is offering its know-how in sports events for the Ministries’, said Luciano Cabral, CBDU President and FISU Vice-President.

The delegations of JIF 2010 will arrive in the federal capital this Saturday, May 22nd. And a big party is scheduled for the Opening Ceremony of JIP 2010 on Sunday, May 23rd. The Ministers of Education, Fernando Haddad, and Sports, Orlando Silva, already confirmed their presence at the Ceremony.

In its third edition, JIF 2010 celebrates the centenary of the Federal Network of Professional and Technical Education which has about 235,000 students enrolled in 255 units of education throughout the country.

Eleven sports are in the program of JIF 2010: volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball, handball, futsal, soccer, swimming, athletics, table tennis, chess and judo.

This year, the delegations promise even more fierce competitions. The men’s volleyball tournament has the biggest diversity of states represented: 21 delegations. And with the spirit of the FIFA World Cup around the corner, the men’s soccer tournament has the largest number of students participating: about 320 student-athletes representing 20 states.

JIF 2010 is realized by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Sports Ministry, the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) and the Federal District Government (GDF).
