2010 WUC Triathlon Closes in Style

The “Umbracle”

Valencia – After such a hard day of competitions on May 30th, all WUC participants had one last appointment at 8 pm at the Arts and Science building in Valencia, called the “Umbracle”, a magnificent domed shaped building with gold coloured lights adorning the row of palms trees on display. The “Umbracle” has at least 50 native grown plants throughout its beautiful garden located amongst sculptures created by local artists.

The awarding ceremony for the women’s and men’s teams took place before the Closing Ceremony. France, Spain and Austria (women’s team) and Poland, USA, and Italy (men’s team) received medals and flowers from Stefan Bergh, Vice-President of FISU; Dieter Bremer, CTI Chair of FISU and Antonio Iradi Casal, Director of the Physical Education and Sports Service of the University of Valencia and Executive Committee President of this 10th World University Triathlon Championship.

At the Closing Ceremony Antonio Iradi Casal congratulated all the participating countries and his team within the Organizing Committee, with all the technical people having realized such a terrific job.

The National Governing authorities, the Regional and City government authorities of the Valencia City Council and the University of Valencia were strongly supporting this event.

Handing over the FISU flag to the next organizer

Stefan Bergh, in his closing speech, congratulated the Organizing Committee, all departments from the sport equipment, facilities, accommodation, transportation, protocol, media and cultural program and of course all volunteers integrated in that organization really deserved a big applause.

Mr. Bergh especially thanked Antonio Iradi Casal for his devotion to the University Sport and for his entire implication day and night in this event. He presented him, on behalf of FISU, a small souvenir.

The FISU flag was officially handed over to Mr. Zam Liu, The Secretary-General of the Chinese Taipei Triathlon Association, for the next organization of the 11th WUC Triathlon in Yilan County in 2012.

A closing dinner and farewell party was then organized in this futuristic place, the greenhouse, in an excellent atmosphere of joy and happiness of all participating countries, really happy to be there and thanking the OC for their fantastic organization.
