2013 SU Update: FISU CT Chairs Visit Kazan

KAZAN – The FISU CT Chairs started their work in the capital of Tatarstan, Russia. For the first time in FISU history, the Technical Delegates visit the Universiade host city three years prior to the Opening Ceremony of the Games.

In the welcoming speech within the first workshop, General Director of the Executive Board “Kazan2013” Vladimir Leonov thanked FISU for organizing the visit of the technical delegates to Kazan and introduced the “Kazan 2013” team. “During our work we are constantly interacting with FISU. I am sure that these days in Kazan our cooperative work will be productive”, Vladimir Leonov said.

John Warnock, Marc Vandenplas & Michal BuchelMarc Vandenplas, the FISU Director for the Summer Universiade noted that the Republic of Tatarstan stands out for its great work in the preparation of the 2013 Summer Universiade. “It is a unique case for technical delegates to come 3 years before the Opening Ceremony of the Games. We are very happy with the preparation of the Summer Universiade in Kazan”, Marc Vandenplas pointed out.

During the meeting, Deputy General Director Azat Kadyrov mentioned that the visit of the FISU CT Chairs to Kazan is very important for the further organization of the Summer Universiade. “Preparation for the Games is going well. Besides the new facilities under construction, old sport facilities will be reconstructed. We already have the project plan ready for the reconstruction”, Azat Kadyrov explained.

He also introduced his team of specialists in charge of the volleyball and football competitions.

After the meeting, FISU delegates visited “Tatinvestgragdanproekt” where they saw the project of the new football stadium with a seating capacity for 45,000.

The inspection visit of the FISU CT Chairs to Kazan, within all the meetings and project observations for Universiade 2013, will be held until June 19th.
