ALANYA – Today, June 15th, the 5th edition of the World University Beach Volleyball Championship will set off. Since its inauguration in 2002, the Championship has been pretty popular among the students. This year’s event is hosted by TUSF, the Turkish University Sport Federation together with the Municipality of Alanya.
Yesterday, June 14th, the CISCA meeting took place to discuss all necessary topics concerning transportation, accommodation, media, medical care and all aspects regarding protocol issues and technical arrangements.
On behalf of FISU, CISCA Chair Ralethe Malumbete (RSA) and 1st Assessor of the FISU Executive Committee thanked the Organizing Committee, TUSF for the overall preparation and for a great job they have been doing. Prof. Kemal TAMER (TUR), President of TUSF and member of the OC of this WUC, warmly welcomed all FISU delegates on behalf of TUSF and the City of Alanya headed by Mayor Hasan SIPAHIOGLU, who is the President of LOC as well. “You will enjoy this WUC which is based on the vast past experience we have in organizing Beach Volleyball on World class level”, Competition Director Kamil OZER said.
Mr. Mark TENNANT (CAN), FISU CT Chair for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball and Mrs. Kris DRAKICH (CAN), Assistant to the CT Chair were very satisfied with the technical preparation of the WUC which meets a high World class level. Mr. Tennant thanked to OC to take this challenge because this will be a real celebration of young student-athletes within the university spirit.
Competition facilities on 7 courts are considered as best ever this Championship was organized. He pointed out that the OC provided a great advantage to come earlier for many athletes and opened training facilities 5 days prior to the start of the competition. As he said “these best possible conditions for athletes health will assure us that no heat stress will appear and everybody is acclimatized for competition”.
26 Men’s and 25 Women’s teams will compete during 5 days of competitions and the format has been adjusted to the number of the teams. This format guarantees a minimum of 4 matches for every team. During the competition there will be TV LIVE Coverage on the main court every day from 17:00 to 18:00 o’clock. This gives the OC a great possibility to promote not only this Championships but also Alanya and TUSF with FISU.
