ALANYA – Yesterday, June 16th the 5th edition of the World University Beach Volleyball Championship started a under clear sky. Even 35 degrees with 18% of humidity on the beach did not disturb the student-athletes performing on high international level. Men and Women rounds of Robin format of play brought up unforgettable games. Almost every team has been playing 2 matches and we must say that not only athletes but also the officials and referees were exhausted after the end of today competition. Of course this beautiful day was accompanied by small medical injuries like cramps of one player and one team forfaited because one player of team EST became sick and had to stay at the hotel.

Some teams like Estonia Men resp. Czech Republic Women achieved excellent results already in the World Championships under 21 resp. under 19.
Among the Men’s teams we could see exciting games between CZE 1 and BRA 2, 2:0 resp. between TUR 1 and USA 2, 2:1. In the women’s round were performing well TUR 1 versus CHN 2:1 or CZE 1 against AUT 2, 2:1, but the most exciting game was between BRA 1 and FRA, 2:1.
During the evening the technical meeting was run smoothly and Mr. Marc TENNANT (CAN) evaluated this 1st day as a big success and thanked to the OC for its huge effort produced by all officials on the competition venue. Under this weather conditions the immense help has been done also by children who were passing all balls to the players.
On the competition field you could also find a perfect prepared OC with Security people and very good organized Medical aid. Lots of fruits, water and a good atmosphere with nice music. Important for the OC and a good promotion of WUC Beach Volleyball was the TV live coverage on the main course between 17:00-18:00 when TUR 2 played against FRA 0:2.
To the excellent atmosphere contributed also the promotion booth of the Erzurum Organizing Committee of the 2011 Winter Universiade, They brought up here perfect equipped team led by Mr. Murat SANCAR – Director of Marketing and Sponsorship department of the OC. Instead the distribution of promotion material you can have at the disposal, the athletes could play a promotional game of SKI JUMPING. The athletes can compete not only on the beach volleyball field but also with their friends in the ski jumping simulator.
