Mr. Saintrond, Mr. Bergh, Mr. Killian & Mrs. Odell
VIGO – Today, June 21st, delegates of the Organizing Committee of the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, Korea (GUOC) and FISU signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
FISU’s highest authority, its President Mr. George E. Killian and Mr. Yoon-Suk Kim, Vice-Chair and Secretary-General of GUOC signed the Memorandum to confirm the Gwangju City Legacy Programme 2009-2015 to achieve the best value out of the grant which the City of Gwangju committed to provide to support FISU’s global legacy through the development of the FISU/UNESCO programme. As the future host of the Summer Universiade is present with a delegation at the 10th FISU Forum in Vigo, it was a perfect occasion to confirm its commitment.
The overall objective of the Memorandum of Understanding is to deliver a series of actions which will leave a meaningful long term legacy for the development of global university sport and the Event.
The Parties will seek to achieve this through a series of projects which will:
• Promote the philosophy, spirit and profile of the FISU through the engagement in and delivery of a legacy programme through partnership with a third party in UNESCO;
• Increase the brand value of FISU through mutually agreed projects between the Parties in partnership with UNESCO;
• Deliver increased long term corporate investment in marketing activities for FISU through alignment with CSR (corporate social responsibility) by FISU and UNESCO
• Promote the ‘City’ and its hosting of the ’Event’;
• Create new partnerships which are sustainable and which improve the effectiveness of sport in education strategies.
