2010 WUC Handball Update: Opening Ceremony

NYIREGYHAZA – Yesterday, June 27th, the CISCA meeting was held in the afternoon. The OC confirmed to the FISU Delegates that all FA venues are ready to accommodate the 20th World University Handball Championship. The Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg County is the name of region where the WUC Handball will be played in 7 different cities, i.e. Tiszavasvari, Nyiradony, Csenger, Nyirbator, Demecser, Hajdunanas, Levelek and Nyiregyhaza.

Yesterday, the WUC was officially opened with the Opening Ceremony according to the protocol of FISU. The President of the Hungarian University Sport Federation Pal Vincze and FISU Assessor Marian Dymalski presented their welcomed speeches to the participating countries. The Mayor of Nyiergyhaza Ms. Csabai Laszlone officially declared the championship open. The President of the County Council was present as well and after the Opening Ceremony he invited all Heads of Delegation and the FISU delegates for the welcome cocktail in the County Hall.

The President of the County CouncilAll participants went through accreditation except three players of Turkey University team who arrived just this morning right after the World Beach Handball Championship.

This morning the Heads of Delegation meeting was held. Teams received the important information regarding the organization of transportation as well as the competition and training program; the referees meeting with technical delegates and table official was held just right after.

Twelve nations will play in this 20th edition of the WUC Handball. Ten nations will play for the man’s world champion title, which are: Hungary, Cyprus, United Arabe Emirates, Poland, Mexico, Serbia, Japan, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Turkey.

There are seven women’s teams: Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, Brazil, Turkey and Japan.
