TAICHUNG – The opening Ceremony of the 2nd World University Weightlifting Championship was held at the National Taiwan College of Physical Education. The college hosts the championship, under the auspices of the CTUSF.
The FISU treasurer Mr. Bayasgalan Danzandor stated that the FISU is greatly satisfied with the professional arrangements and facilities provided by the OC and Taichung City. He also said that this year has marked a great success for the Chinese Taipei University Sport Federation (CTUSF) since it will soon be hosting two others World University Championships.
150 athletes and officials from 25 countries participate to this event.
The Opening Ceremony started tradionally with the march passes of the delegations around the Arena. Dr Chen Kun-Ning President of the OC and of the CTUSF welcomed all delegations.
IWF President Tamas AjanIt was a great honor for FISU to have the President of the International Weightlifting Federation, Dr. Tamas Ajan, present at the Opening Ceremony. It is prove of the excellent working relationship between FISU and IWF. In his speech, Dr. Ajan underlined the importance of the university movement and stressed the real friendship between FISU and IWF. He also underlined the fact that weightlifting will also feature as an optional sport in the two next Summer Universiades (Shenzhen and Kazan).
The highest authority present, Mr. Tseng Sheng-Bao, Vice-Minister of the Sports Affairs Council declared the championship open.
After the arrival of the FISU flag, the FISU anthem was played and the flag was hoisted. Kao Chia-yu, TPE athlete, on behalf of all the athletes took the oath and directly after a referee did the same for the officials. After the official ceremony a cultural program followed. The students of the Dance Department, NTCPE, performed a remarkable ballet while students of the Department of Physical Education, along with its stunning drum band, played a fantastic dragon dance.
Directly after the Ceremony, the competition started and the first medal was awarded.
