NYIREGYHAZA – The Hungarian hosts of the 20th World Unversity Handball Championship succeeded to keep the gold in Hungary as both the Men’s and Women’s Team won the finals today, July 4th.
In the men’s final after a play-offs round, the host team won against the Czech Republic by seven goals difference (33–26). The game for the bronze medal ended in a draw (31–31), where Serbia finally got the bronze winning against Japan after penalties.
Having won all the games in the round-robin competition, the final game of the Hungarian Women’s Team was just a formality which they lost to the Turkish team by seven goals (40–33). The Turkish ended in 4th place, while the silver medal was won by the Romanian team. The 3rd place went to the Czech team.
The 21st edition of the World University Handball Championship will travel to Blumenau, Brazil (2012).

CLOSING CEREMONY
After the awarding ceremonies, the Closing Ceremony took place at the Nyiregihaza Sports Hall. The Closing Ceremony started with the Hungarian national anthem. After the anthem representative of the Organizing committee Andor Tompa and representative of the FISU Executive Committee Mr. Marian Dymalski said the closing speeches. Mr. Dymalski thanked the organizers for their effort for the organization of the 20th World University Handball Championship. This memorable moment was according and following the FISU protocol. FISU anthem was played; flags went from the hand of the Organizing Committee through the FISU representative to the hand of representatives of the Blumenau Organizing Committee of the 21st World University Handball Championship.
