TOKYO – Today’s games at the 5th World University Baseball Championship:
Cuba vs. Korea: 18-0
Cuba outpowered Korea to call the game in 5th inning. Cuba batted around in 1st inning to score 4 runs. They batted around again 3rd and 4th within 2 homeruns by Cespedes and scored 18 runs in 4 innings. Korea managed to hit 2 safe hits from pitcher Pedroso but ended scoreless.
Canada vs. Sri Lanka: 18-0
Canada called the game in 5th with the score of 18 to nil with 15 safe hits.
Canada scored 3 in 1st, added 3 runs in 2nd and 12 runs in the 3rd inning by 4 triples. Sri Lanka registered 2 safe hits but ended in scoreless by missing a chance in the 3rd inning with runners in 1st and 2nd in 1 out.
Japan 15 – 0 China
The game was called in the 6th inning for Japan with 17 safe hits and a total of 15 runs. Ito’s clutch base hit in the top of the 1st inning brought in the first run for Japan, followed by 2 runs in 3rd. After 2 outs in the 4th inning, 8 consecutive hits including a homer by Ito led to 7 runs and 4 additional runs in the 6th which called the game. The three Japanese pitchers, Nomura, Kagami and Nakaushiro, kept China scoreless with only 1 safe hit.
More than hundred 11 and 12 year-old children from 23 countries came to watch this night’s game at Meiji Jingu Stadium in their baseball uniforms. They are participating in the Tokyo Fair of the 20th World Children’s Baseball Foundation’s clinic.
The Japanese representatives of FISU and the JUSB invited the CISCA members and OC member Tawa Kazu for a welcome dinner. FISU Assessor Hisato Igarashi ad CIC member Kenji Nishimura acted as their hosts. Mr. Chen Tai-Cheng thanked the Japanese hosts for the effort to host this WUC as well as the wonderful job done by the OC to promote University Baseball.
