2010 WUC Baseball Update: Day 3 of Competitions

TOKYO Day three of competitions at the 5th World University Baseball Championship in Tokyo, Japan, put the following scores on the score board:

 

Cuba vs. Japan: 12 – 7

Cuba overpowered Japan by a stronger offense including 4 homers. Olivera and Cespedes homered in the 1st inning and brought 3 runs to Cuba. Japan scored a run by a timely safe hit of Abe in the 2nd inning and smashed a come-from-behind 3 run homers of Suzuki. Cuba tied the score by a clutch safe hit of Cespedes in the 3rd inning and forced in with a hit by a pitch in the 5th inning. Cuba widened the lead by home runs of Diaz and Abreu. In 9th inning, Japan closed in from behind by scoring 3 runs with safe hits of Ito and Taki but fell short of reaching Cuba’s stronghold.

 

Korea vs. China: 13-4

Korea scored a run in the 1st inning followed by 7 runs with 7 safe hits including a triple by Lee Taegyun in the 2nd. Two runs by China in the 3rd inning by a clutch base hit of Chao Li was met by Canada’s 5 runs with 6 safe hits in the 6th inning. China scored another 2 runs in the 7th.

 

USA vs. Chinese Taipei: 8 – 7

After Chinese Taipei scored a run in top of the 1st inning, USA came back by a crutch hit of Maggi in the 2nd inning followed by a breathtaking seesaw duel. Yang Kuan Wei’s safe hit in top of the 9th inning gave Chinese Taipei one run lead over Team USA. The Americans however added a run in the bottom of the 9th inning by a homerun of Wright and the game went into extra innings for the first time in this Championship. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Nick Ramirez got a hit to center/right field to win the game for USA.
