2010 WUC Baseball Update: Day 6 of Competitions

TOKYO Today, August 4th the Quarter Finals of the 5th World University Baseball Championship continues in Toyo, Japan.

 

Cuba vs. Sri Lanka (called in 7th): 14-0

Cuba collected 7 runs by 8 safe hits including a double by Cerce in the bottom of the 1st inning and added 3 more runs in the 2nd inning by a double of A.  Despaigne and further other safe hits. Inojosa pitched a perfect game which however remains as an unofficial record because the game was called in the 7th inning with Cuba 14 vs. Sri Lanka 0.

China vs. Canada (called in 7th): 3-17

Marshall, first batter for Canada, hit a home run in the 1st inning and added 2 runs by a homer of Regan in the 2nd inning and another 2 run homerun in the 3rd inning by Fleming.  China scored 2 runs by a double from Jian Longting, which was overtaken by Canada’s 2 runs in the 4th inning.  In the 6th inning, Canada added 6 runs from the Chinese pitchers who allowed 6 base on balls and hit batmen. Rendvoy’s 3 run home run in the 7th added 4 runs for Canada and the game was called in the 7th inning. Canadian starter Brown pitched 6 innings and allowed only 3 safe hits and 3 runs.

Japan vs. Chinese Taipei (called in 7th): 13-0

Japan scored 2 runs in the 1st inning by timely safe hits of Ito and Matsumoto, and 2 more runs in the 2nd inning by Ishimine’s safe hit and added more runs to the total of 13 runs by 6 innings.  3 pitchers, Sugano, Nomura and Oishi kept Chinese Taipei scoreless and called the game in the 7th. Ishimine delivered 5 safe hits of which 3 hits brought in runs.

Game-21 – 5th Place Match at 12:00 @ Meiji Jingu Stadium

Game-22 – 7th Place Match at 14:00  @ Utsumi-Shimaoka Ball Park August 7 (Sat)

Game-23 – Bronze Medal Match at 12:00 @ Meiji Jingu Stadium

Game-24 – Gold Medal Match at 18:00 @ Meiji Jingu Stadium

 

IBAF and FISU Collaboration

Chen Tai-Cheng, Executive Committee Member of FISU, was the special guest at the dinner in Tokyo hosted by the Baseball Federation of Japan in honor of the representatives of the International Baseball Federation, headed by President Riccardo Fraccari. Tony Castro, 3rd VP (Cuba), Seung-Kyoo Kang, President of Baseball Federation of Asia , Jae-Won Lee and Sang-Hyun Lee (Korea), Shen Wei (China), Richard T.C. Lin and Chris Day (Chinese Taipei), Ron Finlay (Australia) and the hosts Y. Suzuki and Kazu Tawa (Secretary General of WUBC and 1st VP of IBAF) attended the dinner.

They discussed with Chen Tai-Cheng how best to strengthen ties between FISU and IBAF for the benefit of both.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pink Baseball Project                       

The Organizing Committee of the 5th World University Baseball Championship announced today as a part of IBAF’s campaign in support of female specific issues to give away Pink Baseballs to the first 2,000 female and children to the Semi-Final at Yokohoma Stadium on August 5th and the Bronze Medal and Gold Medal games at Meiji Jingu Stadium in Tokyo on August 7th.

The Pink Baseball Project has been launched with the aim of helping women to deal with female specific issues. The sales out of this project should be donated to a charity or a hospital associated with women. Approximately 5,000 Pink Baseballs were sold at the 2008 Women’s World Cup in Matsuyama, Japan and the revenues gained were donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
