KAOSHIUNG – Mr. Gianarrigo Rona, President of the World Bridge Federation and Mr. Yves AUBRY, President of the European Bridge League attended the Workshop of the 5th World University Bridge Championships in Chinese Taipei.
Gianarrigo RonaThey expressed their appreciation to all the organizers for the hard work. They recognized the difficulty relating to the fact that some bridge players couldn’t participate in this event because the location is really far away from their country. In addition to that, they both noticed the problem that less and less teams are taking part in the Championship which does not bode well for the future of bridge.
It is expected more and more people around the world would get interested in bridge by their renewed efforts to promote the sport of bridge. Some of these efforts will be focused on raising the number of participating teams to at least 25 in the next edition of this event which will take place in France. An increasing participation from Asia would also be something to strive for.
Mr. Aubry mentioned that bridge curriculum in some countries, such as France and Poland, facilitate students’ participation and help students build up the spirit of team work.
Playing bridge will enhance the skills of analysis and decision-making. Consequently, promoting bridge is a significant and noble endeavor, to which Mr. Rona and Mr. Aubry couldn’t agree more.
