2011 WU Update: Meetings

ERZURUM – The 2011 Winter Universiade starts in 140 days and the sports world is excited to come to Erzurum (TUR) to see real improvement of winter sports in Turkey with all the brand new facilities. Therefore FISU inspection visits are now on monthly basis to discuss with EWUOC the relevant points that must be improved. As the Heads of Delegation meeting is nearing and will be organized in Erzurum from September 30^th to October 2^nd, 2010, FISU delegates paid a visit to discuss all preparation with EWUOC, mainly concerning the IT&C project implementation and the HOD meeting. For this meeting 24 countries have registered.

Milan Augustin (SVK), Director of WU of FISU and Mirjana Cvijanovic (SRB), FISU IT&C Advisor met on September 3rd the IT & C Director of OC Mr. Ugur Kilic (TUR), Secretary General of EWUOC Mr. Macit Toksoy (TUR) and also INNOVA TURK TELECOM representatives with other representatives of the IT&C Department of EWUOC. During the meeting a detailed presentation was made. All necessary cablings have been put under ground with all pipes to connect all sport and non-sport venues with the power central.

Some issues are still pending and will be solved in a short time. Innova Turk Telecom as a main contractor in IT&C has informed us about the Swiss Timing progress and their providing innovative software solutions and services to create great value in terms of IT&C of preparation for WU 2011.

Yesterday, September 4^th, Milan Augustin met Mr.Bekir KORKMAZ, General Coordinator of WU 2011 and Mr. Muhtar KURT,Chair of Technical Committee together with Mrs. Yesim MUDERRIS, Secretary General of WU 2011 and other relevant representatives of EWUOC to find a good solutions for some open questions related to the sport and non-sport preparation. Fruitful discussion was sometimes prolonged to the late night hours and many points have been agreed by General Coordinator Mr. Korkmaz.

On Monday September 6^th, Eric SAINTROND, Secretary General/CEO of FISU; Milan AUGUSTIN, Director WU; Dejan SUSOVIC, Media and Communication Director/Head of TV Production; Zehra ASCI, Director of Broadcasting Department of EWUOC; Mirjana CVIJANOVIC, FISU IT&C Advisor; Mr. Bekir KORKMAZ, General Coordinator of WU 2011 and other representatives of EWUOC will meet in Istanbul with the official broadcaster for WU 2011 – TRT Turkish Television to set up a good planning for broadcasting during the 2011 Winter Universiade.
