10 September 2010

TAIPEI CITY The individual event started today, 10th September 2010.   However, it was definitely not the day for TPE.  To many people’s surprise, both TPE mixed doubles were wiped out and stopped from the quarter-finals.  Because of Bo Zheng’s injury, CHN also abandoned the match.

In the mixed doubles, the No. 2 seeds Sheng-Mu Lee-Pei-Rong Wang played a very close match with CHN Hai-Tao Huang-Shu Cheng, going into deuce in all the games.  CHN lost the first game 21-23, but strived to win the second one 26-24.  TPE and CHN fought closely through out the decider.  But at the crucial moment, TPE committed several mistakes and failed the serve.  CHN grabbed the chance, finished the game 26-24, and made all TPE fans sighed in unison.

At the same time, another TPE pair Yu-Lang Lin-Pei-Ling Tsai were defeated by the Polish pair Wojciech Szkudlarczyk-Malefactor Kirdelska, leaving TPE no place in the quarter-finals.  The top seeds CHN abandoned the match because of Po Zheng’s injury.

In the men’s singles, Tommy Sugiarto from INA defeated the second seed Peng-Yu Du 21-15, 21-18 and will face JPN Riichi Takeshita who beat the 7th seed Tien-Chen Chou.  The top seed Wan Ho Shon who has won the silver medal in Taipei Open recently, also got into the quarter-finals.

As for women’s singles, most seeds got their tickets to the next stage.  KOR player Soo Jin Kim also squeezed into the quarter-finals by beating the 5th seed.

In the men’s doubles, both TPE teams, the top two seeds, landed the quarter-finals safely.

When Japanese pair katsutoshi Noguchi-Yuta Yamasaki defeated INA 17-21, 22-20, 21-17 in a 60-minute-match, many spectators cheered loudly for them.  Korean pair Han Bit Lee and Wan Ho Shon finished the Indian seeds Fernando Kurniawan-Wifqi Windarto off, and will meet the Polish pair Hubert Peczek-Wojciech Szkudlarczyk tomorrow.

In the women’s doubles, seeds CHN, TPE, and KOR entered the quarter-finals.  JPN Midori Sakurai-Yurniko Nishiyama won 21-18, 11-21, 21-17 and will take on the Chinese pair Xin Liu Xuerui Li tomorrow.

There were more and more spectators coming into the gym and cheered for the players and teams they support.  The quarter-finals will start at 10 a.m. and the semi-finals will start at 5 p.m. tomorrow.
