CHN vs. JPN
TAIPEI CITY – The individual event of the 11th World University Badminton Championship went to its quarter-finals and the semi-finals played today, 11th September 2010.
Since the top seeds CHN and another two TPE pairs were absent from the quarter-finals, Hung-Ling Chen-Pei-Chen Hsieh seized the chance to fight. They beat GBR in a romp and will confront Chinese pair Haitao Huang-Shu Cheng in the final. GBR will take on JPN for the third place.
In the men’s singles, TPE Hsuan-Yi Hsueh struggled with the top seed Wan Ho Shon who won the silver medal of 2010 Taipei Open for 78 minutes. Hsueh was trailed 20-22 in the first game but back to his best and finished his opponents off 21-17, 21-15. Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto defeated Korean player as well and will take on Hsueh tomorrow. Since Wan Ho Shon abandoned the game, Jong Soo Hwang worked out as the bronze medallist.
In the women’s singles, CHN Xin Liu will square off against her partner Xuerui Li. TPE player Shao-Chieh Cheng also abandoned the match due to the injury, allowing JPN Sayaka Sato to take the third place.
In the men’s doubles, the second seeds Hung-Ling Chen and Yu-Lang Lin were defeated by the fourth seeds Bodin Isara and Maneepong Jongjit 21-19, 21-19. Later on, the top seeds Chieh-Min Fang-Sheng-Mu Lee beat the Polish pair Hubert Peczek-Wojciech Szkudlarczyk 21-15, 21-9.
As for the women’s doubles, Jin Ma-Shu Cheng stormed into the final by beating KOR 21-9, 21-12. They will face their teammates Xin Liu-Xuerui Li. The third place war is between KOR and JPN.
The 11th World University Badminton Championship finals matches will start at 12 pm. The order of games will be mixed doubles, women’s singles, men’s singles, women’s doubles and men’s doubles. The Awarding and Closing Ceremony will be held right after the matches followed by farewell party organize for the athletes.
