Opening Ceremony
SHENZHEN – September 23rd was a busy day for the 8th World University Archery Championships, full of meetings and activities.
In the morning, the first CISCA Meeting was held in the competition venue – Shenzhen Stadium. A short report on the topics that they had supervised during the last 48 hours was given by each CISCA member. Following this was the Technical Meeting with the attendance of the Technical Committee and the Referee Team. Communication was emphasized by the CT Chair Juan Carlos Holgado; a daily meeting will be held after the competitions to exchange information and other ideas.
FISU President KillianThe Head of Delegations’ Meeting took place at 14h30 in the Conference Hall of the Official Hotel – Silver Lake Resort Hotel. A general introduction of the event was given by the Organizing Committee to the delegations, following by the Question and Answer session.
Besides the meetings, September 23rd was also the first day for the official trainings and equipment inspections. For a while the big Shenzhen Stadium was really full of people, busy practicing and working. Then delegations went back to the Hotel for a good rest, getting ready to enjoy the grand opening of the Championship.
Opening Ceremony
Mr. Liang DaoxingThe Opening Ceremony in the late afternoon was, beyond any doubt, above the standard of a normal World University Championship. Delegations from 20 countries and regions were present at the ceremony, they are: Belgium, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong China, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Chinese Taipei, Great Britain, United States of America and the host, People’s Republic of China, while the Organizing Committee is still expecting the arrival of Mongolia and Nigeria.
A welcome speech was delivered by the Vice-President of the Organizing Committee of the 8th World University Archery Championship, Mr. Liang Daoxing, who is also the Vice-President of the Executive Board of the 26th Summer Universiade. As the CISCA Chair of this event, FISU Assessor Omar Al-Hai thanked the local people for their wonderful job and invited the FISU President George E. Killian to express his gratitude. Vice-Mayor of Shenzhen City/President of the Organizing Committee of the Championship, Ms. Wu Yihuan declared the official opening of the event.
As a courtesy, the Organizing Committee invited the delegates of the General Assembly of the Asian University Sports Federation to attend the ceremony. Many members of the FISU Executive Committee were also present.
Shezhen Vice-Mayor Ms. Wu Yihuan A traditional Chinese Lion Dance was performed during the cultural part of the ceremony, and was very appreciated by the audience from different countries.
Evening was the moment to enjoy the famous Chinese Cuisine. The Organizing Committee prepared a Welcome Banquet for the FISU officials and delegations. The Banquet lasted for 2 hours and ended in a very good atmosphere.
Besides the Championship activities, the FISU President, the Secretary General/CEO and the SU Director took the opportunity to meet the Executive Board of the 26th Summer Universiade and all the department directors in order to solve some remaining problems in the process of the games preparation.
