MARIBOR – Today, October 8th, the CTIs had their second day of meetings in Hotel Habakuk in Maribor, Slovenia, host city of the 26th Winter Universiade in 2013.
The meeting started with the reports of all technical delegates about their findings after their first venue visit yesterday, October 7th. Dr. Dusan Hamar, the Vice-Chair of the FISU Medical Committee also reported on his meeting with the OC delegates responsible for the medical services during the WU.
After the restricted meeting the FISU CTI delegates met with the representatives from the Organizing Committee to discuss their first findings. ‘The importance of this meeting was to connect the specialists from FISU with the local specialists’, Mr. Roth, CTI Chair for Winter Sports, said. ‘It is an advantage that we meet a t such an early stage and it was a very fruitful meeting.’
OC Chair Tone Vogrinec and his team very much appreciated the assessment of the FISU Technical Delegates as this would give them valuable information to proceed with the preparations of the biggest multi-sport event for Slovenia Maribor will host in three years time.
After the meeting, the FISU Technical Delegates took the opportunity of them being all together to further discuss the preparations of the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum, which is less than four months away.

In the meanwhile, Mr. Roger Roth attended a press conference of the Maribor OC as one of the speakers, next to Mr. Vogrinec, OC President; Mr. Srecko Vilar, WU Games Management Director and Otmar Kugovnik, SUSA President.
Roger Roth at the press conferenceThe Maribor press asked Mr. Roth if the host city is ‘ready’, referring to the slogan of the 26th Winter Universiade ‘We Are Ready!’.
‘I’m very happy to see that the preparations are progressing’, Mr. Roth answered the question. ‘The Universiade will take place in 2013 and is still 3 years away. However, Maribor is indeed ready to prepare in a good way this event. With my team I visited the venues and I can confirm that Maribor is certainly on the right track. The OC has a very good team of technicians with a lot of experience on the sports level. We are confident they will deliver excellent Games’, Mr. Roth said.
