KAZAN – According to the public opinion poll conducted by the research centre of the Superjob.ru Recruitment Portal 2010 in ten largest cities of the Russian Federation from December 2 to December 20, 9% of respondents in Kazan admitted that the most memorable events in 2010 were connected with preparation of the city for the 27th World University Summer Games of 2013.
More importantly, most of the responses were related to Kazan’s sports life and development of its sports infrastructure. Thus, 4% of respondents named among main events in 2010 sports achievements of Kazan’s clubs and Russia’s win of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, 2% of respondents – opening of sports venues.
15 Universiade sports venues, including the Boxing and Table Tennis Centre, Sankt-Petersburg Volleyball Centre, Burevestnik Indoor Swimming Pool were put into operation in 2010 in Kazan. In May Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin opened seven sports venues and laid the foundation stone of the new 45,000-seat stadium. Three stadiums, namely Olimp (Olympus), Tulpar and Miras, were officially inaugurated in August by the FIFA evaluation team.
Apart from other sporting events, Kazan citizens also named such memorable events as Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaymiev’s resignation and Rustam Minnikhanov’s appointment to the presidential post, Cirque du Soleil’s tour to Kazan, construction of transport junctions, summer fires and draught.
