2011 WU Update: Host Country Participates with 152 Athletes

ERZURUM – TUSF President Prof. Dr. Kemal Tamer stated that Turkey will be participating with 152 athletes (73 female & 79 mal) in the following competitions: snowboard, biathlon, cross-country, freestyle,ski-jumping, nordic combined, short track, figure skating and ice hockey.

Mr.Tamer noted that the number of student-athletes has been increasing each year. In year 2000 there were 8,500 student-athletes in Turkey, in 2010 the amount has doubled to a mere 17,000.

In the international events Turkish student-athletes took part they won a total of 27 medals, 6 gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze.

After the 2011 WU, TUSF will stage a EUSA event, i.e. the European University Football Championship together with Haliç University from June 19th to 26th, 2011.
