2011 WU Update: Winter Universiade Spoils Philately Collectors

This set is only available with the entire leafletERZURUMPost stamp collectors will be delighted to find out that the Organizing Committee of the 25th Winter Universiade together with PTT, the Turkish Post, have provided a nice philately collection to commemorate the 2011 Winter Universiade hosted in Erzurum.

A nice eight-page leaflet has been published containing a real treat for the avid University Sport stamp collector, i.e. four prepaid postcards (2 x 90 kurus and 2 x1.30 TL) of which two depict the Games Mascot, Snowy the double headed eagle, one depicting the ice sports and another the snow sports. Included in the leaflet is a first day sheet envelop with a set of four stamps and the first day cancellation. Besides these treats there are two sheets of stamps ( a set of 4 and one of 5) of different values (90 kurus & 1.30 TL) with both the FISU logo and the Universiade logo together with different items such as the mascot, the ski jumping towers, an ice hockey player and other historical landmarks like the double minaret madrasha.

The complete booklet is sold at 30 TL, all items can be purchased separately except the 5-stamp sheet.

The philately items can be found in the main post office in the city center and in the post office in the Athletes’ Village and the Main Press Center where daily cancellations can be collected as well.

FISU President Killian, an avid University Sport and Basketball stamp collector himself, was very pleased with the set the OC and Turkish post issued.
