2015 SU Update: “UNI FRIENDS”, Student Honorary Ambassadors for 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade start Term

Inauguration ceremony for UNI FRIENDS for the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade

GWANGJU – Thirty six university students were appointed as “UNI FRIENDS”; student honorary ambassadors to promote the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade to people around the world.

The inauguration ceremony for the first round of UNI FRIENDS attended by all newly appointed ambassadors was held under the title of “Let’s Make You a Master! For Two Days One Night’” at a local Media Center and a Korean traditional Village on February 26th and 27th.

Those thirty six student ambassadors were selected out of two hundred ninety applicants across the country. The student ambassadors include a graduate student waiting for job opportunities, and a Filipino student studying at a local university in Gwangju.

After the ceremony they participated in promotional activities for the 2015 Summer Universiade at various people gathering places. 

Rigoberto, a second year student from the Philippines said, “Gwangju Universiade is the event that I have to promote around the world because I love Gwangju. I will do my best to promote the Universiade to the world”.

The first round of UNI FRIENDS will promote the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade for the next six months through online and offline activities. Online activities will take place through social networking media such as Facebook, Twitter, Blog, etc. For offline activities, the students will participate in university festivals in Korea, AIPS Congress, 2011 Daegu IAAF World Championship, and 2011 Shenzhen Summer Universiade.

Mr. Yoon-suk Kim, the Secretary-general of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade Organizing Committee noted that “the main actor and actress of Universiades are students themselves and the first members of UNI FRIENDS will work together with the organizing committee to stage a successful event in 2015.”
