ULAANBAATAR – Every two years, the Mongolian Student Sports Federation organizes its National Universiade which serves as a selection ground for the athletes that will participate at the Summer Universiade. According to the tradition, this year MSSF is holding the 10th “National Universiade-2011” Sports competitions in 11 sports between students of universities, institutes and colleges of Mongolia are staged between 18th March and 15th May, i.e. judo, table tennis, chess, aerobic, volleyball, football, free wrestling, handball, basketball, woodball and a 5km run in Ulaanbaatar city. The event is co-hosted by the Government Implementing Agency – State Authority for Physical Culture and Sports Mongolia, the Mongolian Students Association, the Mongolian Student Sports Federation, sports federations and clubs, administrations and physical culture department of universities, institutes and colleges.
Opening Ceremony Table Tennis
The first competition which started was table tennis and it has been successfully completed involving around 100 (men 50 and women 32) student-athletes from 19 universities and colleges. The Opening Ceremony was held before starting the table tennis competition on 18th March 2011 in “Champion” club. At the Ceremony Jargalsaikhan D, FISU CIC member, AUSF EC member and Secretary General of NUSF Mongolia and Tserensodnom L, EC member of NUSF and Director of the School of Fine Arts and Technology in Mongolian State University of Education were present. The winners of the first 4 places of the table tennis competitions will take part in the XXVI Summer Universiade (12th– 23rd August 2011) in Shenzhen, China.
The best athletes of judo, table tennis, chess and aerobic competitions selected from this “National Universiade 2011” shall participate in the XXVI Summer Universiade to be held in Shenzhen, China from 12-23 August 2011. The women’s volleyball team which won the gold medal at “National Universiade 2011” Games will participate in the 2nd Asian University Women’s Volleyball Championship 2012 which will take place from 21st-29th April 2012, in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
So far, 10 sport events (aerobics, handball run this week, chess volleyball, judo, wrestling will be held in April, football, woodball, 5 km run and basketball will be held in May) are remaining and will be organized in the following weeks. The Closing Ceremony is on 15th May, 2011 in New Sports Palace at Buyant Ukhaa which has 5,040 seats. The Mongolian Student Sports Federation prepared 615 medals to present to the student-athletes who are placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd place of the “National Universiade 2011”.
The Mongolian Student Sports Federation takes a series of measures to prepare and train its athletes to participate in the 26th Summer Universiade Games in Shenzhen this August 2011, and the Asian University Sports Championships in 2011. The Mongolian delegation to the Shenzhen Universiade will participate in 15 sports (athletics, swimming, gymnastics, judo, table tennis, tennis, beach volleyball, aerobics, archery, badminton, chess, cycling, sports shooting, taekwondo and weightlifting) and will consist of around 180 persons. This is the biggest Mongolian delegation at a Universiade so far.
