2011 SU Update: Young Sport Journalists Seminar

SHENZHEN – During the Head of Delegations Meeting in Shenzhen, FISU IPC Chair Leonz Eder, Vice-Chair Verena Burk and Dejan Susovic, Director of FISU Media and Communication met with Guo Jun, Director of the Media and Communication Department of the Shenzhen Summer Universiade and his staff.

The aim of this meeting was to discuss the progress of the preparations for the Seminar for Young Sports Journalists to be held during the Summer Universiade in August 2011. It was agreed that FISU will invite 10 young sports journalists from five continents (1 female, 1 male). The information about the application procedure is already published on the FISU website. Additionally the Shenzhen Organizing Committee will welcome 30 international sports journalists, selected by AIPS, and 20 junior sports journalists from China. In the morning, lectures and training sessions will be held for all the participants. In the afternoon and evening, small groups will be supervised by six experienced mentors during on-the-job training at the sport venues and in the press center.

Furthermore, the FISU representatives inspected the Main Press Center, the working facilities for journalists and photographers, the studios for the broadcasting teams and the dedicated hotel for the international and national journalists. They also visited the media accreditation center, the catering area for the journalists and the main press conference room. FISU EC Member Leonz Eder stated that the progress of the preparations for the media coverage is excellent, and his colleague Verena Burk was very much impressed by the working conditions for the journalists and technicians.
