2013 SU Update: Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov visits Universiade Village

KAZAN Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov paid a visit to the Kazan Universiade Village. During his tour around the unique student campus he was accompanied by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, First Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan Azat Sharapov and also Kazan Federal University Rector Ilshat Gafurov.

Universiade Mayor Farid Abdulganiev presented the living conditions and accommodation rules to the Deputy Prime Minister. While touring one of the Village’s buildings constructed by student construction brigades, Sergey Ivanov inspected the living quarters, educational facilities, a video hall, a laundry room and a medical station that will be put into operation during the Games.

Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized the fact that the Universiade Village was declared the territory of health and principles of a healthy lifestyle are strictly followed here.

Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov met with campus residents as well and expressed a high opinion of the students’ living conditions. ‘You’ve got excellent living conditions and facilities. All you need is to study. And we need skilled personnel’, Sergey Ivanov said at the end of his speech.

In the course of the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister attended a meeting during which the Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Vladimir Leonov delivered the Kazan 2013 progress report. The Kazan 2013 transport infrastructure was introduced as well.

Sergey Ivanov studied the construction progress of the 2013 SU sports venues, transport and parking lots availability. A special attention was paid to security issues. The Deputy Prime Minister suggested to use the GLONASS system. President Rustam Minnikhanov presented the Republican Centre for Space Services based on the Russian Satellite Positioning Systems. The Centre will operate during the World University Summer Games and provide security for visitors to Kazan.

‘I wish I lived under such conditions!’, expressed the Deputy PM. He was pleased with the given report. ‘All that is left, is to implement it’, he summed up.

At the end of the visit each guest planted a tree on the territory of the Universiade Village, thus contributing to the all-Russian Saturday clean-up event.
