2013 SU Update: Universiade Village’s Fire Safety Systems successfully inspected

KAZAN – On April 27^th, the Universiade Village was visited by Deputy Chief State Inspector of the Russian Federation, EMERCOM’s Head of Supervisory Department, Mayor General of Internal Service Yury Deshevykh and Minister for Emergency and Civil Defense of the Republic of Tatarstan Rafis Khabibullin.

Yury Deshevykh inspected the facilities’ compliance with fire protection requirements. During the inspection visit he checked the performance efficiency of an automatiс fire extinguishing system, fire alarm and voice warning system.

At present most multi-storeyed buildings have fire sprinklers and smoke exhaust systems. ‘The Universiade Village buildings are being equipped with a video surveillance system. Over 300 cameras are mounted inside this building, for instance. So we can trace each emergency and find out the cause of a trouble shutdown’, Universiade Village Mayor Farid Abdulganiev explained.

Yury Deshevykh thoroughly studied the evacuation management as well. During his inspection visit Mayor General of Internal Service Yury Deshevykh asked an unexpected question to the staff members of the Universiade Village: ‘What’s the emergency phone number?’ ‘Zero-one’, they answered bewildered. ‘Well done’, Yury Deshevykh said. ‘And your facilities are in compliance with fire protection requirements as well.’

All the systems work well and in accordance with the requirements of technical documentation. The EMERCOM’s Head of Supervisory Department was fully satisfied with the personnel’s actions.

The Deputy Chief State Inspector of the Russian Federation Yury Deshevykh arrived in Kazan to take part in the conference held within the framework of the VolgaStroyExpo Exhibition. The conference featured discussion of fire safety requirements, standards and regulations for different facilities under construction. The technical documentation developed by him regulates construction of buildings designed to provide dense accommodation, like the Universiade Village, for example.
