BRASILIA – After the regionals of the 2011 Brazilian University Sports League in Natal (RN) and Vila Velha (ES), the teams are set for the national stage of the competition, in Brasília (DF), the federal capital, from September 18th to 25th .
Delegations of Espírito Santo, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiroand Goiás celebrated titles of handball, futsal, volleyball and basketball tournaments at Regional South, Southeast and Midwest, in the city of Vila Velha, from June 20th to 25th.
Athletes of Universo (RJ) won the 1st place in handball (male and female) and women’s volleyball. Espirito Santo secured the gold medal in men’s basketball and futsal tournaments with Fabavi / Doctum (ES) teams. The athletes from São Paulo (Unip/SP) won the tittles of women’s futsal and basketball. And Goiás, with Araguaia University, was champion of the men’s volleyball tournament.
National
The team champions and runners-up of the Regional North and Northeast and South, Southeast and Midwest and the medal-winning teams of the national phase of League 2010 face each other at the final and national round of the tournament.
“We are preparing a big party inBrasilia, in and out of court. All teams will receive lodging and meals during the games and the champions of the regionals will still have transport from their city to Brasilia. We will provide the best structure for athletes who give their best on the sport court and once again demonstrate the potential of national university sports”, said Luciano Cabral, President of Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU).
The regional rounds of Brazilian University Sports League brought together about 1,600 athletes from twenty states, representing more than forty universities. “These are record figures and show the consolidation and growth of the event. And if we count the participants of the selective tournaments promoted by the federations in the states we involve even more universities and students”, completed Luciano Cabral
For the final phase of the Brazilian League 2011 in Brasilia, the expectation is to bring together teams from seventeen states. Highlight for Pernambuco, São Paulo and Santa Catarina, the largest delegations qualified for the tournament, and the Federal District that will have team in all the sports.
