2013 SU Update: Kazan 2013 Flag planted at Taimyr

KAZAN – A group of travelers led by Dmitry Murzin returned from Taimyr where they planted the Kazan 2013 Flag on the Arctic floor under the project ‘The Trail of North Pole Expeditions’.

The Taimyr expedition co-organized by the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate became a continuation of the joint project launched by the Kazan Expedition Club and Norilsk Expedition Club named after Vladilen Troitsky. The expedition started off at the Universiade Village on April 1st and took a 7,000 km long motor rally through the Volga Region, Urals and Siberia, following which the travelers flew to the village of Khatanga and rode in KamAZ trucks through the tundra to the Taimyr Peninsula.

The route included the following areas: central and eastern Taimyr, the northernmost point of the GLONASS station, Cape Chelyuskin, Cape Cross. Despite the fact that the route was challenging due to weather conditions and scarce roads, the participants took an active part in sports and cultural events organized in the populated areas of the Arctic region. More than that, they gave a series of Kazan 2013 presentations to local population to make them aware of the 2013 Summer Universiade. Thanks to the tough character and loyalty to a healthy way of life, the expedition reached the final destination earlier than it was planned. The group of travelers reached the Laptev Seacoast where the Kazan 2013 Flag was planted.
