2011 SU Update: “We are ready!”

SHENZHEN – On July 13th, the Universiade 30-day countdown event was held in the Universiade stadium in Longgang District. After over 1,000 days of continuous and meticulous preparation, a well-prepared Shenzhen made this loud declaration to the world with full confidence.

City Party chief Wang Rong attended the event and spoke. He urged the entire city of Shenzhen to exhibit the spirit of “willingness, courage, speed and capability” in the final stage of this decisive battle, ensure the success of the Universiade, and finish the job with flying colors. Wang Rong also proposed the initiative of green commuting, and expressed his wishes that citizens actively participate in green commuting voluntary actions. Mayor Xu Qin hosted the event and announced the title of the Universiade theme song “Start Here”.

Wang Sui Ming, City Deputy Party chief, gave a brief overview of the Universiade theme song collection process. Shenzhen leaders Lv Rui Feng, Li Ming, Jiang Zun Yu, Zhang Wen and chief executive of the Universiade Board Liang Dao Xing attended the event. Venue director representative, Han Xing Yuan, volunteer representative Chen Jie and citizen representative Luo Run Mei all spoke at the event.

Wang Rong said enthusiastically: “Since bidding for the Universiade, we have spent more than 1,000 unforgettable days together. Over 1,000 days of careful preparing have acquired for us a great number of modern venues, complete technology equipment, and a well-trained executive team; we were also rewarded with the improvement of Shenzhen’s basic facilities, the city’s environment and ecological quality. The core concept of “Unique wonder starts here” was fully displayed, and the enthusiastic participation of the citizens and city staff was highly stimulated. All of these have given us full confidence to send a loud message to the whole world: Shenzhen is ready!”
