Judoka Abdul Omarov (centre) appointed as Kazan 2013 Ambassador
PERM – Judoka Abdul Omarov, a winner of the 26th World University Summer Games in Shenzhen, has been appointed as a Kazan 2013 Ambassador.
The Kazan 2013 Ambassador initiation ceremony was held on September 3rd during theFISUFlag Relay festivities inPerm.Credentials were handed over by Igor Sivov, Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate.
Omar Abdulov, who is also a student of the Russian State University of Physical Culture and Sports, said in his acceptance speech that being a Kazan 2013 Ambassador was «a very honorable mission. I will do everything possible to justify the trust that was generously bestowed upon me. I would like to meet with students, to tell them about the Universiade. I’m overwhelmed with the pride for the homeland, at the idea that we were entrusted with a right to carry out such a large-scale youth event. There were wonderful conditions created for athletes in Shenzhen, so that we could enjoy competitions and socialize. I’m sure that inKazanwe will host the best Universiade ever held. And I will be trying to show good results on the tatami, I would like to repeat the victory at the domestic Universiade.»
It is noteworthy that Abdul Omarov is a two-time champion of the national U23 championships, champion of Russia, bronze winner of the World Cup and one of the most possible candidates for the national team to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Earlier, the Kazan 2013 Ambassador titles were bestowed on Tatarstan weightlifter Andrey Demanov, Murakami lead singer Dilyara Vagapova and Izhevsk athlete Marina Azyabina.
