2013 SU Update: Saratov amazed by ‘Universiade in Your City!’ Concert

SARATOV – Over 3,000 students and young activists gathered on the Theatrical Square of Saratov to honor theFISU Flag Relay delegates that arrived in the city on board of the ‘Universiade in Your City!’ train on September 13th.

Among the audience there were students of the Saratov Region’s leading higher education institutions, including theChernyshevskySaratovStateUniversitywhich signed a cooperation agreement with the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate earlier today. The ‘Universiade in Your City!’ concert featured the best dance and music groups of the Saratov Region and the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as winners of the all-Russian and international talent shows, contests and festivals, laureates UNI-elite, a cultural Universiade project implemented by the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate.

The ceremony of the FISU Flag replica handover to Saratov became the key moment of the ‘Universiade in Your City!’ event which saw the attendance of the Pavel Grishin, Federal Inspector of the Saratov Region; Irina Tkacheva, 1st Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Saratov Region; Leonid Kossovich, Rector of the Chernyshevsky Saratov State University; Sergey Ivanov, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan; Larisa Sulima, Chief of Staff of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and renowned athletes of the Saratov Region Natalia Lobova and Sergey Ulegin.

«Students are the most powerful source of energy! Thanks to you, Russia will astonish the whole world with its hospitality and cordiality, staging the best Universiade ever», said Irina Tkacheva, 1st Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Saratov Region. In return, Kazan 2013 delegates Sergey Ivanov and Larisa Sulima thanked citizens of Saratovf or an amazingly warm welcome. «The festival of youth, sports and beauty that you presented to us and yourselves, is the brightest example of the breathtaking atmosphere the World University Summer Games will be filled with», Larisa Sulima, Chief of Staff of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate said.

The ‘Universiade in Your City!’ concert ended with the performance by Murakami, a rock band from Kazan that earned the love and recognition of the Saratov youth.
