2013 SU Update: Volunteers’ Academy to open its Doors in Universiade Village

KAZAN – 500 young volunteers aged 18-30 from 48 federal regions of Russia and countries abroad will gather in Kazan to take part in the ‘Volunteer’s Academy International Youth Volunteer Camp’ which will run from September 19-25.

Secretary General of the Olympic Committee of Russia Marat Bariev, 1st Vice President of FISU Oleg Matytsin, representatives of international sports organizations, Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of theRussian Federation, Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, renowned athletes and other public persons will be among specially invited guests.

As a key part of the preparations for the 2013 Summer Universiade, the project is focused on developing volunteer movement in Russia, creating a positive image of the country in the world and establishing a close cooperation between volunteers from various regions of Russia and abroad.

The camp was initiated by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan and Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate with the support of the Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation and Directorate of Youth and Sports of the Council of Europe.

The program of Volunteers’ Academy includes education, sports and cultural events aimed to train volunteers for large sporting events. There will be five training courses depending on the areas of volunteer activity: Promoter Volunteers Kazan 2013, Reporter Volunteers Kazan 2013, Recruiter Volunteers Kazan 2013, Educator Volunteers Kazan 2013, Creator Volunteers Kazan 2013.

Sports event management experts will host masterclasses and workshops allowing representatives of various volunteer organizations to exchange their experience and develop a system of cooperation for the Kazan 2013 volunteer training program.

It stands to mention that on the day of the Volunteers’ Academy International Youth Volunteer Camp opening, the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate announces the launch of the ‘Make U Real’ volunteer selection program for the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan. Any person willing to become a Kazan 2013 volunteer can submit an application online on .

We would remind you that the 1st edition of the ‘Towards the Universiade Youth Volunteer Camp’ was held in Kazan on June 23-28 in the Ministry of the Interior’s training camp at the Mirny Village and assembled over 130 volunteers from 28 federal regions of Russia and countries abroad. The camp’s program included a number of volunteer coordination masterclasses and workshops on organization and management of the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan and Olympic and Paralympic Games inSochi. The camp ended with a youth forum that observed the attendance of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Deputy Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation Oleg Rozhnov, Council of Europe Director of Youth and Sport Ralf-René Weingärtner and other officials.
