2013 SU Update: ‘Make U Real’: Volunteers wanted!

27 September 2011

KAZAN – Liliya Barieva, Director of the Volunteer Department of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, gave a lecture on the final day of the Volunteers’ Academy and delivered a presentation of the ‘Make U Real’ volunteer selection program. The closing lecture took place in theTennisAcademy.

Liliya Barieva explained the candidate-volunteers that there would be several volunteer positions at the 2013 Summer Universiade; Kazan 2013 volunteers will be working as team hosts and sports volunteers, as well as assist in media centers and the Universiade Village.

She mentioned that the Kazan 2013 Organizing Committee would provide accommodation, food and a volunteer outfit. Moreover, free public transportation, mobile phones and insurance policy will be guaranteed for volunteers as well. As a bonus, volunteers will be offered an excursion around the city.  «I can assure youKazanwill be more beautiful in July 2013, and we will enjoy a warm and sunny weather», she said.

The Director of the Volunteer Department placed a special emphasis on the preparatory period. Potential Kazan 2013 volunteers will be interviewed via phone. To make volunteers more informed about the preparation progress of the 2013 Summer Universiade, all the necessary information and a practical guidance will be available online.

When asked if there will be any special privileges given to volunteers delegated by public organizations to the Volunteers’ Academy unlike those who apply individually, Liliya Barieva made it clear that all the ‘Make U Real’ applicants will be on equal terms. The only exception will be made for 30 volunteers that had an internship at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, they will skip the interviewing.

A cheering ovation was given to Liliya Barieva’s comment about the age limit for Kazan 2013 volunteers. «If insurance companies will start insuring volunteers that are older than 80 years, the age requirement will be different of course.» The audience was also interested in the volunteers’ involvement in test events. «We strongly believe that a few test events that are expected to be held in 2012 will be available for non-local volunteers as well. As you understand, the main challenge is to provide them with accommodation, we are working on it now», Liliya Barieva explained. Other topics discussed at the lecture were foreign language proficiency of Kazan 2013 volunteers, cooperation between the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and public organizations, international internships.
