TAIPEI CITY – The FISU Evaluation Committee for the 2017 Summer Universiade composed of Mr. Hisato Igarashi, Mr. Marian Dymalski, and Mr. Marc Vandenplas arrived in Taipei on October 15th for the inspection visit of the candidate city of 2017 Summer Universiade. Mr. Tin-Yu TING, the Deputy Mayor of Taipei, Mr. Yeong-Ren CHEN, the Secretary General of Taipei City Government, Mr. Kunning CHEN, the president of Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation (CTUSF), together with Mr. Tai-Cheng CHEN,FISU Assessor personally received the committee members at the airport followed by a performance of traditional folk dance in order to give them the warmest welcome.
Short after their arrival, the evaluation committee members had lunch hosted by the president of CTUSF with 9 gold medallists and coaches of the 2011 Shenzhen Universiade. The gold medallist team presented traditional snacks as a welcoming gift and during the lunch, these elite athletes had the opportunity to share their experience of participating at the Universiade with the FISU evaluation committee members.
The general presentation chaired by the Mayor Lung-Bin HAU took place at the city hall later in the afternoon. The Minister of Education, Mr. Ching-Ji WU, the Director of Sports Affairs Council, Mr.Rey CHOU, and the heads of different departments of the city government attended the meeting to support the bid of Taipei City. In the beginning of the meeting, Mayor Lung-Bin Hau presented HTC smart phone and ASUS tablet computers that are both designed and made in Chinese Taipei to the evaluation committee members for experiencing the advanced information technology and smooth internet connection anywhere inTaipei. In addition, all the information related to the inspection visit was already installed on the phone as well as in the tablet computer. Right after the welcome speech of the Mayor, Mr. Hisato Igarashi, the vice-chair of the evaluation committee gave his address too. Later the bidding committee of Taipei gave a detailed and comprehensive presentation and FISU also brought up their concerns.
After the meeting, the FISU evaluation committee went for the welcoming banquet hosted by Mayor Lung-Bin Hau.
In the following two days, FISU evaluation committee will inspect all the venues of finals of compulsory events, the Athletes’ Village and the Dome for the opening and closing ceremonies. On the last day, an internal meeting ofFISUwill take place, followed by a press conference. After the inspection of Taipei City, the FISU evaluation committee will submit a conclusive report to theFISUExecutive Committee whom will decide by voting on November 29th which city gets the honor to host the 2017 Summer Universiade.
