ALMATY – The 2017 WU Bidding Committee ‘Almaty 2017’ and the Kazakh Institute of Management, Economics and Strategic Research have launched a joint pilot project of a sports journalism school as part of the bidding campaign.
The sports journalism school is a training project that allows Kazakhstani journalism students to meet with the country’s sports reporters and gain hands-on experience covering and managing press-center activities during major sports events.
The sports journalism school offers students a real opportunity to get familiarized with the world of sports news, understand what makes a sports journalist and get a feeling of the profession.
The syllabus of the pilot project is based on lecture and workshop-type classes in which leading Kazakhstani professionals will share experience of creating successful sports media, both paper and electronic, talk about the challenges of their profession, as well as discuss the specifics of various genres and national championships.
Moreover, the school’s students will participate in real activities taking place in Almaty, including those that are part of the bidding campaign. The best student works will be posted on the official campaign website .
Students will also have an opportunity to gain experience organizing press-conferences and press-centers during major sports events. In particular, they will participate in organizing the media center during a bandy game between Russia and Sweden that will take place in Almaty this week.
