GWANGJU – Do you know how the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade is being prepared? The Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) has published a quarterly newsletter that shows the progress of the preparation at a glance.
The GUOC increased the number of pages from 8 to 24, extending the coverage to news from other Universiade Organizing Committees.
The newsletter introduces the ‘EPIC’ strategy, which represents eco-friendliness, peaceful setting, state-of-the-art information technology and abundant culture in full and highlights Gwangju’s reconstruction of old apartments, which will be used for the Athletes’ Village. It also contains various articles on Uni-friends who are student ambassadors,UniversiadeLanguageSchool, which brought about boom to learn foreign languages, as well as news of the host city, Gwangju.
In particular, the newsletter covers the successful result of the 2011 Shenzhen Summer Universiade and the preparation of the 2013 Kazan Summer Universiade, enabling the readers to have a good grasp of mega sports events.
Yoon-suk Kim, the GUOC Secretary General, said, “By observing other host cities such as Shenzhen and Kazan, we can learn how a mega sports event is to be organized. We intend to build a foundation for citizen participation in the Universiade by sharing the progress of preparation through the newsletter.”
The GUOC plans to publish Korean and English version newsletters, and distribute them to sports organizations, universities, and media in order to promote the 2015 Summer Universiade. Starting next year, the GUOC will publish quarterly magazines to offer Universiade news to the public.
