BRASILIA – The FISU Evaluation Committee is in Brasilia (DF) for its technical visit and inspection of the city bid to host the Summer Universiade in 2017.
FISU EC members Hisato Igarashi (Japan) and Marian Dymalski (Poland) together with FISUDirector SU Marc Vanderplas (Belgium) arrived in Brasília on Tuesday morning, November 3rd and were welcomed by Célio René, Secretary of Sports of the Federal District, Luiz Otávio Neves, the Secretary of Tourism GDF, and Luciano Cabral, President of the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU). The delegation went to the hotel Royal Tulip (Blue Tree) where will be held the presentations of the Bid Committee for the FISU officers.
The official program of the visit began with a welcome speech by Luciano Cabral, Luiz Otavio and Celio Rene. Andrew Parsons, President of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, also made a presentation to the FISU officials about the proposed parasports tournament for swimming and athletics at the 2017 Summer Universiade, one of the highlights of the Brasilia application.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome the FISU Family in our national capital, in the city chosen to host our CBDU competitions and a young city that has strong links with the sport. The bid for the 2017 Summer Universiade was embraced by the Federal District state and the federal government and will be a huge opportunity in the consolidation of university sports in our country and in South America”, said Luciano Cabral.
The Evaluation Committee will also be received in audience by the Minister of Education, Fernando Haddad later on. And the panels about Finance and Sport Experience and Venues will close the first day of the FISU visit, which runs until Sunday (November 6th).
In four days of inspection, FISU officials will know the points mentioned in the application file of Brasília 2017 submitted to FISU, such as sports facilities, hotel industry, restaurants, airport, parks and the campus of the University of Brasilia(UnB), and they also will meet authorities and members of the Brasília 2017 Bid Committee.
The sports facilities and urban infrastructure built for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2013 Confederations Cup will be used and exploited to make the national capital of Brasil the world capital of university sports in 2017.
