9 November 2011

KAZAN – 102 volunteers were enrolled in the spoken English course titled ‘Language Work’ held within the 4th season of the ‘English 4U’-project which has become an integral part of the volunteer preparations for the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan.

Over 300 young people ofKazan, among which are students of higher education institutions and specialized secondary education establishments of the city, expressed their wish to join a unique volunteer project ‘English 4U’. All the candidates underwent a careful selection, the main criteria being active involvement in sporting events, volunteer experience and personal motivation.

A special language program was elaborated for the project, it takes into account the wishes and recommendations expressed by alumni of the previous three seasons and is focused on teaching speaking skills and sports vocabulary. Volunteers study sports terms, needed during international events, learn to overcome a language barrier and practice their spoken English skills. «English 4U is the project that helps to experience the whole beauty of being a volunteer. It’s great that while studying, English volunteers build volunteer teams that will be able to demonstrate a high-quality well-coordinated work and a good command of English during test events and the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan», said Azat Khusainov, a coaching volunteer of the English 4U project.

The ‘English 4U’ education program initiated by Kazan 2013 volunteers and supported by the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate debuted in the spring of 2010. Within three seasons, 30 teaching volunteers have been conducting over 200 lessons. The ‘English 4U’ Village course became a separate branch of the project as it was focused on teaching English to staff members of the Universiade Village. In total, more than 100 Kazan 2013 volunteers completed the ‘English 4U’ program and now they successfully apply their knowledge during test events held in the preparations for the World University Summer Games.

Let us remind you that those who are willing to contribute to the preparations of the 2013 Kazan University Games can use an online application which is available now on the official web page  and apply for the Kazan 2013 volunteer selection program.
