KAZAN – President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting with executives of McDonald’s on November 15th. The parties discussed a cooperation during the 27th Summer Universiade.
The meeting took place in the Government House of the Republic of Tatarstan and saw the attendance of CEO of McDonald’s Russia and President Eastern Division Khamzat Khasbulatov, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan Rafis Burganov, Director of the Presidential Department of Foreign Affairs – Aide to the President on International Issues Iskander Muflikhanov, Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Vladimir Leonov and others.
Cooperation with McDonald’s during the 2013 Summer Universiade inKazanwas the major topic discussed during the meeting. The McDonald’s-Russia representatives tabled an offer to open a fast food restaurant (a temporary facility) on the premises of the Universiade Village and render free food services to athletes and delegates residing in the Athletes’ Village during the whole period of the World University Summer Games inKazan. The company is ready to provide equipment, food, staff and the temporary facility at its own expense.
In the course of the meeting Rustam Minnikhanov mentioned that over 13,000 athletes and national delegates from 170 countries are expected to arrive in Kazan for the 2013 Summer Games, including 1,500 media representatives and nearly 50,000 tourists and supporters from Russia and abroad. According to the head of the republic, one of the major tasks bestowed upon the Kazan 2013 organizers is to provide professional and high-quality catering services to large numbers of athletes and supporters.
The parties also discussed the project of a vegetable recycling plant that McDonald’s implements together with its partner, Belaya Dacha Group of Companies, on the territory of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone. Rustam Minnikhanov promised that the Tatarstan Government would give support to this project.
At present there are 14 McDonald’s fast food restaurants in Tatarstan:nine inKazan, two in Naberezhnye Chelny and one in each of the cities of Nizhnekamsk, Almetyevsk and Bugulma. The first fast food restaurant of McDonald’s inRussiaopened in 1990, and in Tatarstan the company boasts a 12-year history of foodservice retailing. Every day McDonald’s serves around 46,000 people in the republic.
