Kazan 2013 Volunteers to help Athletes to decide 2012 Olympic Berths

KAZAN – In the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games, Kazan will become a hot spot where athletes will clash against each other in order to qualify for the London 2012 Paralympic Games. On January 27-29, the host city of the 27th Summer Universiade will hold the WTF European Qualification Tournament for the London 2012 Olympic Games. 80 Kazan 2013 volunteers will be involved during the sporting event in various functional areas of management.

The WTF European Qualification Tournament for London 2012 Olympic Games will be held in the Ak Bars Wrestling Palace. Over 300 athletes, officials and VIP guests from 40 countries will gather for the tournament. The first national delegates have already arrived in Kazan.

Over 80 Kazan 2013 volunteers will support the organizing committee in different areas of responsibility and will be fulfilling various volunteer roles. The boys and girls are perfectly aware that a successful delivery of the tournament depends in many ways on their devotion to work. They are already serving as assistants to national delegations, helping in transportation, accommodation and on the field of play. Before the volunteers started their work, they had attended the meeting with the OC representatives and had completed specific training courses mainly focused on assistance to teams, transportation, accreditation and venue’s operation.

Kazan Volunteers in Innsbruck with Deputy PM Kozak

On January 25, five Kazan 2013 volunteers returned from Innsbruck, where they had been serving as interns during the 1st Winter University Games

The Kazan 2013 volunteers earned the right to travel to the Youth Olympics as they were shortlisted by the Games Organising Committee at the end of 2011. The mandatory criteria were good language skills and experience of working at large-scale sporting events. Thanks to their involvement in numerous international test events held in Kazan in the run up to the 2013 Summer Universiade, Tatyana Nikulina, Albina Khusainova, Denis Gordiyko, Rezeda Akhmetova and Nailya Fakhrutdinova easily passed the competitive selection and successfully underwent their internship in Austria.

The Kazan volunteers were entrusted with the most significant roles at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics. For instance, Tatyana Nikulina acted as assistant to the manager of the venue where the Innsbruck 2012 Culture and Education Programme was implemented. Rezeda Akhmetova was appointed a volunteer coordinator at the media centre of one of the most important 2012 WYOG venues, and Denis Gordiyko worked as a photographer intern in the media centre of the Games. Two other volunteers, Albina Khusainova and Nailya Fakhrutdinova, became assistants (attaches) to the Russian national team. In the words of Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee Marat Bariev, all the volunteers were highly commended by the 2012 WYOG Organising Committee for their hard work.
