GWANGJU – The Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (the GUOC) held a welcoming ceremony and orientation session for the third-term Uni-friends, Universiade honorary ambassadors on the 22nd and 23rd of February. The event held for the 100 newly selected Uni-Friends, was organized to deepen their understanding of the Universiade and strengthen their competence as student ambassadors.
Uni-friends will play a key role in the 2015 Gwangju Universiade by introducing the event to students across the nation. Last year 72 Uni-friends from the first two rounds of selections started their mission and the newly selected third-term of 100 Uni-friends will join them on the national tour to promote this important international sporting event.
Jeong-eun Seo, a second-year student who is one of the third-term Uni-friends said, “The Universiade has allowed me to meet many talented and enthusiastic friends from all over the country”, confirming her desire to do her best in promoting the Gwangju Universiade during the Games.
The new group of Uni-friends carried out their first mission by introducing the event to citizens, video-taping their street promotions and sharing the results with all people concerned through PowerPoint Presentations. They also broadcasted their promotional attempts in real-time via Facebook and Twitter.
Un-tae Kang, the mayor of Gwangju City as well as the chairperson of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade delivered Uni-friends a video message inspiring and encouraging them to become a bridge to the world. He also asked in his message that they join forces to work together in order to ensure the success of the 2015 Games as an EPIC – Eco-friendly, Peaceful, state-of-the-art Information Technology, Cultural – Universiade.
