BLUMENAU – A meeting between leaders of FISU, CBDU and Mayor João Paulo Kleinubing, this Friday (March 09), marked officially the start of the inspection for the 2012 World University Handball Championship in Blumenau (SC). The city is preparing to receive for the first time a World University Handball Championship from June 21st to July 01st.
João Paulo Kleinubing, the mayor of Blumenau,Luciano Cabral, president of CBDU, Laurent Briel, director of the FISU World University Championships, Alessandro Batiste, manager of events from CBDU, Ricardo Souza, deputy technical director, Ricardo Moura, director of international relations, Sergio Gaudino, president of the Municipal Sports Foundation in Blumenau and Paulo Funke, events coordinator of FMD, attended the meeting.
The mayor of Blumenau assured full support to the World University Handball Championship and reaffirmed the interest and support of the municipality with university sports. “We did two editions of the Brazilian University Games JUBs in 2007 and 2010, the biggest university event in the country. Our city is familiar with university sports and has great experience in organizing major sporting events”, said João Paulo Kleinubing.
Luciano Cabralreiterated the partnership between CBDU and the city ofBlumenau. “When we presented Blumenau as the host city we had assured the city’s ability to perform an historical edition of the tournament”, said Luciano.
Laurent Briel thanked the support of the mayor. “I am very happy to be here inBlumenauand receive information and guarantees for the success of the World University Handball Championship”, added Briel.
On Saturday (March 10), the second day of inspection, the delegation inspected the structure of SESI, one of the venues for the World University Handball Championship. Two arenas of competition and a support arena will be mounted on the SESI.
The group also went to theGermanVillagewhere will be built the main court of the WUC, the official restaurant of the event, CCO and Family Center for participants.
In the afternoon, the leaders visited the hotels that will be used during the World University Championship and ended the day with a general meeting for analysis and the check-list of the specifications.
For the WUC 2012 in Brazil, ten teams are already registered: Turkey, Czech Republic, Korea, Nigeria, Poland, France, China, USA, Kuwait and Brazil.
