MACEIO – The first day of the FISU inspection in Maceió (AL), this Monday (March 12), was marked by meetings and visits to the places where there will be the arenas of the 2012 World University Beach Volleyball Championship that shakes the capital of Alagoas from September 12 to 16.
The delegation, composed by Luciano Cabral, president of CBDU and vice-president of FISU, Laurent Briel, director of the FISU World University Championships, Ricardo Souza, deputy technical director, Ricardo Moura, director of international relations, Edinilton Vasconcelos, technical director, Silvio Leonard, technical advisor, and Maria Cícera, president of FADU, visited the beach of Pajuçara arena that will host the 2012 World University Beach Volleyball.
The leaders of CBDU showed the layout of the arena to Laurent Briel and discussed the main points of the structure. “The layout of the project follows the arena from the 2010 WUC event inTurkeyand the Universiade in Shenzhen and guide us in the final construction of the structure in Maceió. We also saw the pictures of the arena built annually on Pajuçara beach by the Circuit Bank of Brazil of Beach Volleyball, the largest national event in the category”, said Luciano Cabral.
After exploring the sands of Pajuçara, the inspection group visited the campus of Cesmac, where they were received by the rector João Sampaio, the athletic director, Moacir Albuquerque, and the media coordinator, Jorge Moraes. The Cesmac is the institution of higher education, supporter and partner of the 2012 WUC and will provide physiotherapists, doctors, nutritionists, physical educators and volunteers for the competition. “We will also use their hospital as the official hospital in the event and their journalism team should promote the live broadcast of the games”, added Luciano.
The Secretary of Tourism of Maceió, Claudia Pessoa, received the delegation after lunch, representing the city council. In the afternoon, the vice-president of the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV), Walter Laranjeira, and technical coordinators and referees, met with the inspection group.
